FNB customers purchased R17bn in prepaid services via digital channels in the last 12 months

FNB customers purchased a total of R17.2 billion in prepaid services such as electricity, airtime, data and digital vouchers like Uber, Showmax, Google Play and Spotify, which are available on FNB’s digital channels in the last 12 months to June 2021. This amounts to approximately R1 billion more in prepaid purchases compared to the same period in the previous year. 

Raj Makanjee, CEO of FNB Retail and Private Banking says, “Prepaid services such as data, digital vouchers, electricity and airtime are necessities in many households, especially now that many people are working in a hybrid manner where they are more often at home than their usual work environment. More importantly, we have enabled our customers to also use their eBucks to buy electricity, vouchers, airtime and data to help them save on out-of-pocket expenses. This is one of many ways in which we help our customers to manage their money and lifestyles.” 

Millicent Raikane, Product Head, Service Provider at FNB Connect explains that “Customers find value in being able to access a wide range of services through a single digital platform. The convenience of being able to buy prepaid services anywhere at anytime is one of the contributing factors to the growth we have seen over the years. Furthermore, service providers also find value as they get exposure to more than six million Retail and Commercial customers who use our digital channels.” 

Recently, Consulta’s South African Customer Satisfaction Index (SA-csi) survey recognised FNB Connect for its highest customer satisfaction versus competitors. Over 2 200 consumers participated in the independent survey to evaluate satisfaction in areas such as service, quality and value among competing telco brands.

In addition to its prepaid services, FNB Connect has also enabled customers to purchase smartphones, laptops, accessories, TVs, gaming consoles, smartwatches on the FNB App with contracts of up to 24 months. Customers are offered a “Deal of the Week” and “Hot Deals” that offer market-leading value-for-money offers, helping customers manage their monthly telecommunications spend with discounted deals. 

“We are constantly looking for opportunities to enhance our customers’ lives and as we’ve moved to more remote and hybrid working environments, our customers have expressed a need for solutions that will help them work better. As a result, in November we will be launching more digital vouchers in the productivity category, including Microsoft 365 vouchers, Norton, Kaspersky, McAfee etc. These vouchers will be available on our digital channels and what’s great is that customers will be able to use their eBucks to purchase these vouchers,” concludes Raikane.
