The South African Guild of Mobility Journalists (SAGMJ) has announced that the competition winners of the 2022 South African Car of the Year (COTY) competition will be announced on Monday, 6 June 2022.
This prestigious competition, staged by the SAGMJ, has run continuously since 1986. The Guild announced the 25 finalists for this year’s competition at the end of January. https://sagmj.org/2022/01/28/2022-south-african-car-of-the-year-finalists-announced/
Besides the overall winner’s crown, finalists can also win one of ten categories. The ten categories include Budget, Compact, Compact Family, Midsize, Premium, Luxury, Performance, New Energy, Adventure SUV and 4X4 Double Cab. The Budget and Premium categories have no contenders this year.
There are also category winners for the Motor Enthusiasts Choice, which is selected by the public via social media, and the Juror’s Excellence Award, which awards the vehicle with the highest scores based only on juror scores without the automated sales scoring.
“There was great rivalry in most categories in this year’s competition. In recent years, technological innovation has made tremendous advancements that positively impact value-for-money customer offerings, making the scoring process particularly difficult,” says Graham Eagle, Chairman of the 2022 COTY committee.
