No more masks or restrictions, but what about vaccinations?

SAPTU (South African Parastatal and Tertiary Institutions Union) welcomes the announcement made by the Minister of Health Dr Joe Phaahla that brings an end to last few Covid-19 regulations.

This means no more mask-wearing (inside of outside), no limitations on large gatherings and travel restrictions on people entering South Africa.

SAPTU now wants to know what the next step is regarding the policy towards vaccination.

“Now that there are no more restrictions and no more need to wear masks, the next question SAPTU has, is what are the policy going forwards be towards vaccination status and requirements,” said Adv Ben van der Walt, the general secretary of SAPTU.

Policies implemented – because of Covid-19 – by employees that has an effect on SAPTU members include more than just the wearing of masks and the amount of people that are allowed to attend gatherings – outdoor and indoor.

“We are still working towards what is best for our members when it comes to Covid-19 Vaccination Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) implemented by universities around the country.”

SAPTU is a member Fedusa which is a member of Nedlac which must guide the government in social dialogue.
