Bounce to Fitness with CANSA & ReboundSA

1st October 2022 will be a National Rebounding Day in South Africa.

CANSA is once again partnering with ReboundSA to present the second National Bounce-A-thon across the country on Saturday, 1 October.

Rebounding is one of the most fun ways to get fit and healthy – and last year 20 of ReboundSA’s affiliated studios participated in South Africa’s first Bounce-a-thon and raised R70 000 for CANSA.

The number of participating studios has doubled this year to 40 – and Leillani Geduld, CANSA’s Corporate Relationship Coordinator Corporate Relationship & Sporting Events Manager hopes that people will once again take advantage of this terrific opportunity to improve their health and fitness, while supporting the CANSA cause.

CANSA has a longstanding working relationship with ReboundSA who have specialised in rebounding since 2007. In 2011, CANSA awarded the ReboundSA the very first CANSA Smart Choice Seal of Approval* for physical activity in recognition of the rebounding techniques and protocols ReboundSA developed for health linked to regular exercise.

They went on to develop the first rebound instructor training course in SA for Adult classes (in 2013), and children’s classes in (2020) – which launched South Africa’s booming industry of rebounding studios nationally. They currently have over 80 affiliated studios in South Africa – with many more individual class instructors working in large fitness centres or overseas.

Everyone is welcome to join in on this collective Bounce-a-thon event at one of the participating studios, or for those who would prefer online, a limited number of Zoom classes will be available.

Tickets can be purchased online through Quicket. Most rebounding classes are R100 per entry, with a few longer or speciality classes between R200 – R300. To pay at the door, participants should ensure that they have booked and paid for their tickets with the studio to ensure that a rebounder is reserved for them.

Events take place from 8:00 until 16:00 on 1 October. Each participant receives a free Digital Book ‘Rebounding for Health and Fitness’ to the value of R150 and access to CANSA’s Healthy Lifestyle Risk Assessment to assess cancer risk (free). They will also be entered into a draw and stand a chance to win amazing prizes.

Keith and Justine McFarlane, owners of ReboundSA, say, “Rebounding is not just a fun way to get moving – it can be used for many different benefits: vigorous bouncing for a high cardio, minimal impact workout that includes all of the health benefits, and low gentle bouncing for health and recovery from illness. Rebounding has immune supporting benefits on the body, particularly the lymph system, which is why it’s recommended as part of a cancer risk reduction strategy. Rebounding can assist people living with cancer because even if you bounce very low – the gentle acceleration and deceleration of the G-Fore still boosts lymphatic function, improves oxygen intake and absorption, and very gently exercises every cell in your body.”

Geduld continues,” We care for cancer patients and loved ones with CANSA’s care and support programmes, and we invite the public to show they care too by participating in the Bounce-a-thon to help raise sufficient funds for us to continue to do so. Anyone diagnosed with cancer can contact CANSA to access CANSA’s care and support programmes, such as medical equipment hire, wigs, counselling, tele counselling, support groups, online support groups and resources, as well as CANSA Care Homes where patients receiving treatment far from home can stay during treatment. Support and information are available via the CANSA Help Desk on 0800 22 6622 or email info@cansa.org.za. We offer support via our WhatsApp line that helps with cancer education, queries and support in isiXhosa, isiZulu, Sesotho and siSwati (071 867 3580) and support via phone and online platforms.”
