Over 40 potjiekos potentials challenge for the ultimate Potjie champion trophy release

42 pots have been entered in this year’s event making for an interesting challenge for judges who will marking the entrants for their flavour, innovation, presentation, and a whole lot more. They will also be marked on their décor, the atmosphere they create on their stand and how they entice the public to taste and buy a plate of food from their pot.

Members of the public are invited to be part of the festivities with activities for children, a refreshment zone, and be part of the celebration of a great South African tradition. Breakfast rolls, ribs and pancakes will be on sale from 10:30. The potjie pots need to be ready by 12noon.

All proceeds go to beneficiaries of the Nicarela Charity.

Judges this year are:

Refilwe Tselanyane was a MasterChef SA finalist in 2014 and now runs her own catering company- RT Eats. She is very involved in the culinary industry having participated in food demonstrations at Foodie shows and judged competitions, she is also a private chef, speaker and cake artist. Affectionately known as the “Curvaceous chef”, Refliwe learned her skills from Mom at a young age and says food is “her life”.

Philippe Frydman is an executive chef and author known for his humanitarian efforts in the food industry. Born in Belgium, trained in Israel , France and Italy, he specialises in creating award winning food service environments and sustainable customer experience. Also known as the “Mussels from Brussels”, he also headed up the SA Chefs academy and participated in the World Chefs Tour against Hunger.

Consumer studies teachers from Parktown High school for Girls, Sally Barnes and Nobuhle Mthethwa love everything about food. Having judged in 2022, they are able to guide the process and look forward to another year of amazing food options.

Caro Berry has a thriving catering business – “Caro in the Kitchen” and her wide -ranging knowledge and love for everything culinary means she is the perfect judge for our eclectic range of chefs.

Philippa Robinson is a private chef and small events caterer who braved season 3 of MasterChef. She is looking forward to some exciting new flavours and of course, the usual exciting themed pots.
