Soweto Theatre Welcomes “The Voice” After High Demand

After a successful run at The Joburg Theatre and public demand, Sello MaakeKaNcubes The Voice is moving to Soweto Theatre from Thursday 27th to 30th January 2022.

Recently, this GBV Awareness production was on for two consecutive days at the Joburg Theatre and both performances were sold out. A production created by award winning veteran actor Sello MaakeKaNcube and Abafazi Bengoma brings attention to the vestiges of colonialism and apartheid on the black family.

A theatre piece with a predominantly female cast, highlight the plight of women who have survived abuse, domestic violence, discrimination, and exclusion and clarion call for men to take note and be at the centre of eradicating GBV, dubbed as the shadow pandemic of RSA by the president.

Using a multidisciplinary approach of powerful storytelling in song, spirited dance and audio-visuals, The Voice reverberates with a songs of redemption and consciousness. An inspiring call for society to reflect, introspect and take responsibility repairing our social and moral fibre.

This play, produced by the Sello Maake KaNcube Foundation, aims to create a 365-day GBV awareness campaign using inventive methods invocation of self-redemption in men of all races of our the country.

The Voice is in partnership with The National Lottery Commission, Soweto Theatre and the Department of Arts and Culture.
