City honours Enoch Sontonga, composer of our democratic anthem, with exhibition

The City of Cape Town invites members of the media to the first temporary exhibition opening at the Cape Town City Hall. The City will be opening an exhibition on the late Enoch Sontonga, the composer of the South African National Anthem, in celebration of Freedom Day. 

Enoch Mankayi Sontonga, born in 1873, earned his place in history as the composer of one of Africa’s best known and most loved anthems, Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika.

The City chose to honour Sontonga with its first temporary exhibit as we reflect on our democracy this Freedom Day.
