RiSA acknowledges 10 million streams for K.O’s Sete

The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA), which publishes The Official South African Chart (TOSAC), is proud to recognise the 10 million streams amassed by award winning musician K.O’s latest single Sete. K.O released Sete, featuring Amapiano star Young Stunna and fellow rapper Blxckie, in August 2022.

RiSA and TOSAC presented the rapper, real name Ntokozo Mdluli, with a plaque in recognition of this important milestone. Since Sete’s August release it has spent 10 weeks at number one on TOSAC, broken the record for fastest gold single in TOSAC history and been certified platinum just 16 days following its release. During these 10 weeks streams averaged between 700 000 and 1.3 million views per week. The “African opulent lovers anthem” also joins Master KG’s Jerusalema as the only South African song in Spotify history to amass over 300 0000 streams per week . Sete has additionally, reached 10 million views on YouTube since the official release of the visuals.

The rapper said: “Having been in the industry for a significant time, I am in awe that I am still able to set and break records. I have the opportunity to all set new milestones for South African music culture and that is truly an amazing feeling. I share this moment with Blxckie and Young Stunna; I am proud of the work that we put into Sete. Of course, I am also grateful to all the music lovers who streamed and shared the song as well as every music platform that afforded us airplay.”

Powered by BMAT Music Innovators, the global music technology leaders, TOSAC recognises digital streaming singles aggregated from Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer and YouTube Music. The chart week runs from Friday to Thursday. The presentation of the plaque is one of many new TOSAC initiatives aimed at acknowledging the achievements of artists.

RiSA CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi enthused: “Sete has undoubtedly been one of the biggest music singles to come out of South Africa in 2022. After its release in August it was a staple on radio, streaming platforms, clubs, taxis, and gatherings alike. Perhaps the song’s biggest appeal is how it seamlessly brings the Hip Hop and Amapiano genres together. We are proud to have presented this certificate to K.O in acknowledgement of the milestones reached by this song. Our local artists continue reinvigorate and drive the growth of the South African music industry and we are excited about what more to expect from our artists particularly as we enter the festive season”.
