Emerging art exhibition showcases new talent

Following the successful Emerging Art programme of last year, the City is hosting a new group exhibition as part of the Emerging Artist Programme. The exhibition features works of 18 artists in different mediums including two installations.

Titled ‘Mother City’, the exhibition opened on Wednesday, 4 October at 6 Spin Street Gallery, Cape Town. The exhibition aims to uncover the intricate connection between the city’s environment and the creative process, encouraging reflection on how artists both influence and are influenced by the city’s evolving identity.

The artworks showcased within this collection, curated by Zimasile Mjokozeli, offer a contemplative space, inviting viewers to explore the dynamic relationship between artists and the city that fuels their creativity.

The following Gallery hours will apply:

Tuesday – Friday: 10:00 – 16:00
Saturday: 10:00 – 14:00
Monday and Sunday: closed

‘Supporting this arts programme will not only create a platform for artists to show their work, but it is also an opportunity to experience art in its many forms. The Emerging Artists Exhibition means a lot to aspiring and emerging artists as it provides avenues to improve their practice and contributes towards building unique and diverse cultural expression in Cape Town. The programme also aims to support artists in Cape Town with limited resources through opportunities for exposure, skill-development, and networking in the creative industry,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia Van der Ross.
