Mathematics is a migraine for most South African school children, but a University of the Western Cape student might have a cure. Munashe Dzikiti, a final year LLB student, created a game called eRank Play to increase the understanding and application of mathematics for primary and high school learners.
Now she is off to the national EDHE Student Entrepreneurship Intervarsity competition after winning the regional round in the Existing Business – Social Impact Category.
Dzikiti said: “I am working with an amazing co-founder, Thobeka Nkabinde, a UWC alumni, and together we are dedicated to improving the mathematics skills of our youth and to open them up to more job opportunities. I have had a smooth-sailing experience entering the EDHE competition, and the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation coordinator, Wendy Mehl and her team, are to thank for that. She made sure I had voice training lessons and workshops to educate myself and others on the fundamentals of running a business.
“She said being awarded the opportunity to represent the university at a national level is a great privilege, and I hope to bring great honour to our University.”
