Take a stand against GBV in Sandton this weekend

Gender based violence is a devastating, wide reaching problem in South Africa with the country having some of the highest statistics in the world. Sandton City is inviting people to take a stand up against this scourge, and to commit to playing a role in positive change, this weekend, on Saturday 27 August 2022.

The new initiative, titled #TakeAStandWithYourHand invites visitors to the centre to take a stand, by dipping their hands in paint, and imprinting their hand marks on a giant protest wall, that will be set up in the centre court on Saturday from 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM. In doing so, people will commit to playing their part in supporting and protecting women and children across the country. With the goal being to attract thousands of supporters, people of all ages are encouraged to participate.

“The number of women and children that have suffered pain and trauma at the hands of gender-based violence in South Africa is unthinkable. It simply cannot continue.” says Preston Gaddy, General Manager of Sandton City. “With this initiative, we hope to make our voices heard, and help stop this dreadful scourge,” he added.
