Lager was founded by Charles Glass in 1894. The history of the name Lager was taken from the German and means storage. The German just like everywhere else in the world had a tradition of storing beer before drinking. The oldest beer brand in South Africa is known for its dry and somewhat bitter taste. Castle Lager has been described as South Africa’s national beer.
